Hailing from Vienna, Austria, Thomas King was born to be a performer. He took up the drums at age four, soon after expanding to piano. He first took to the professional stage as a child actor, starring in many stage plays and on television. At 16, he discovered his voice and subsequently joined a cover band, where he adopted the vivacious stage presence he brings to every live performance.
Constrained by the lack of options in his native Austria, Thomas decided to take the plunge and relocate to the land of limitless opportunities: Los Angeles.
He formed a band, and started performing at clubs on the Sunset Strip, in Hollywood and in Beverly Hills. In order to further hone his vocal chops, he called upon noted voice coach Ron Anderson, who has previously worked with such luminaries as Lenny Kravitz, Usher, and Alicia Keys.
Thomas recorded his first EP, High on Life, with producer Justin Jagoda in 2010 and was named one of the "Hot 100 Unsigned Artists" by Music Connection magazine. He just finished his second EP, Last Night Living, with Grammy-nominated, Juno Award-winning producer Brandon Friesen (Sum41, Nickelback), and engineer Bryan Carlstrom (Billy Idol, Alice in Chains, The Offspring) in Los Angeles.
Some of King’s role models who are known for their enigmatic stage presence are Michael Jackson and Prince (mixed in with the theatrics of David Bowie). However, when it comes to songwriting and vocal styling, he draws influence from Robbie Williams, Billy Idol, and The Killers.

Free Download: Thomas King – One Night Stand “Profssr X Club Remix”
You have to know I am quite the fan of Thomas King, right from the moment my friend Felicia first brought him to my attention and ears caught a listen of his saucy electro pop. This was even before he made it as an EQ Discovery, I’ll have you know.
I truthfully can’t think of many Austrian artists that have such a universal crossover appeal as I think Thomascould – infact off the top of my head I can’t think of many other Austrian artists at all.
“One Night Stand” was the track that stood out to me the most, Thomas really channels into his inner “Mika” on this one. It’s most absolutely utterly Fab-U-lous. It’s also the first single to be plucked from his newly released album “High On Life” that further boasts lots of similarly tasty electro pop goodness.
So what does Thomas aim to achieve with his flirty electro pop ditties? “What I want to express through my music is spreading freedom, excitement, beauty, passion, joy, peace, and love to the world. To put it in simpler terms, I want my audience to go on a ride with me and have a blast.”
With this wonderful mix to jig along too, we’ll be sure to do that Thomas – Thankyou!

Show Review: Thomas King at Life on Wilshire for Breast Cancer Benefit

Last week, I found myself south of the Sunset strip at a showcase benefiting Breast cancer research. Apart from the costumed characters trolling the room, like Batman, The Mad Hatter and Jack Skelington, the one figure that really stood out to me was Thomas King.
Once he took the stage, I knew Thomas King was a character in his own right. Not only does his height allow him to be larger than life, but he can dance like his life depended on it, without relenting. He also manages to sing as if he was standing still, his voice cutting through the meaningless conversations going on in the room. One by one, you could see heads turning and then approaching the stage to see him dance.
Thomas King’s dance pop music is a made to get bodies moving and his performance solidifies it. If you refuse to dance, he’ll dance enough for everyone, making sure that not once inch of the stage is sparred from his high-energy, dancing wrath.
At the end of the short set, the platinum blonde King closed with Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” playfully commenting that he even wore his Billy Idol wig for the occasion. His next show is on May 10th, 2010 at 9pm in Beverly Hills. For more info visit www.thomaskingmusic.com/updates .
MySpace Discovery - Thomas King
What a great find this one! Everyone say hello to the NEW pop kid on the block -Thomas King.
At first I thought Thomas King was going to be another pretty boy pop star wannabe but after downloading his three-song EP "High On Life" and giving it a whirl, I was ever-so-impressed with this California living, Austrian born songster. Combing vocal elements of Freddie Mercury and the feel good factor that only the best European pop can bring, Thomas King is most surely one to watch out for. I for one am entranced.
His standout track is called "One Nite Stand" and it's a whimsical and delightfully catchy pop affair whilst "The King Lives On" has a slightly more pop/rock tone which highlights Thomas King's passionate mission to spread freedom, love and joy all around the world. "Do You Believe" gives us a harder more serious side to the singer's musicality and the result is just gorgeous - just think of the theatrics of a Pet Shop Boys song mixed in with a the enthusiastic vocal adrenalline of Mika - its really impressive.
No word yet on when the "High On Life" EP is set to launch, but rest assured EQ will be the first to tell you. In the meantime, discover Thomas King for yourself today and let him know that EQ sent you.

Thomas King - High On Life - Review

What Was He Thinking?:
Introduced to me recently by a great supporter of the site, I've had the chance to review Thomas King's new EP, High On Life. And although he's not a name you may be aware of Austrian Thomas's music is absolutely amazing! - His EP, High On Life, is due for release later this year - however, in the meantime, have a look at his official website here.
The first track I've had the pleasure of reviewing is the absolutely amazing One Nite Stand. A fun, lighter dance piece, with touches of R'n'B & Rock in the track, it's light, summery, fresh and fun. I LOVE It. It's So catchy, Thomas' vocal is great and I adore the middle-8, before that FANTASTIC chorus - It's just amazing. Love the track!.Not sure what else to say other than LOVE IT, Listen to it, and I'd love to know your thoughts! Love the strings too. Now, I'm not sure exactly whoThe King Lives On is dedicated to but, regardless, it's great. Based on, of all things, a brilliant set of strings, with a great groove in the verses, the track is just a fun, flowing track that works really rather well. Love the vocal, and the middle-8 is absolutely amazing, as well. Again, another big, bright, sing-along chorus makes for a fantastic track that just works really rather well. Great stuff. Maybe just a little long for me, that's all...Lastly though, I really rather like Do You Believe?. Different in sound to the last two, it's a rough, heavy, dark track that manages to hybridise pop, r'n'b and rock really well. The beat is absolutely amazing, and the strings are amazing. The track is VERY intense and the vocal and the echoes work really well. It's quite epic, rather theatrical, and I just adore the beat. It's a heavy, crunching one that I love - Definitely recommended!

Thomas King Is High On Life
Feb 23, 2011 Julie Keenan
Thomas King is no ordinary musician--he's on a mission and he won't be stopped. As stated on his website, Thomas desires to "inject high-energy pop tunes into a world in need of a futuristic funk vaccine". This task he completes with the appearance of such ease and talent, it's surprising that not everyone's heard of him...yet.
Awesome Austrian
Originally from Vienna, Austria, Thomas has been interested in music since a very young age. At four years, he began to play the drums and only five short years later, took to the stage for the first time. He spent his adolescence touring with a couple of great bands and performing both on television and on stage. It was during this time that he learned the finer points of performing arts which lead to the development of his larger-than-life persona. Thomas headed to Los Angeles in the pursuit of expanding his fan base and taking his music to an out of this world level.

Hailing from Vienna, Austria, Thomas King started playing drums at the precocious age of four, and first took to the stage at age nine. During his formative years, Thomas toured with a couple bands, acted on stage and television, and honed his performance skills to adopt the vivacious stage presence he brings to every show. Ready to elevate his art to the higher level, Thomas set out for Los Angeles, but made an unexpected detour on the way and serendipitously found the Kingtom.
A kingdom in space, the Kingtom consists of seven celestial bodies, all gravitating towards The Great Uniting Star - LOVE. The planets are each founded on a specific principal, including FREEDOM, EXCITEMENT, BEAUTY, PASSION, JOY and PEACE. Since adopting the teachings from the Kingtom, Thomas has seamlessly incorporated his knowledge to create a unique brand of infectious pop music.
With his current EP ‘High On Life
How do you describe your music to people?
I call it HIGH-ENERGY POP, a blend of catchy pop tunes with a strong, dancy, groove and a rock edge. David Bowie meets Billy Idol, with a little Lady Gaga on top.
Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
I am originally from Vienna, Austria, where I got into show biz at the age of 9. I was a child actor in the national theater. I also picked up the drums at a very young age. One of those plastic Mickey Mouse drums you can bang on. I guess I got my musical genes from my mum. Can't be my dad. He's a business person. However, playing drums got too boring after a while. I wanted to be the center of attention, meaning the lead singer. So I started to sing in an Austrian cover band when I was 14. Eventually, I ended up in Los Angeles, where I am now, infusing the music scene with high-energy pop music!
What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
My favorite thing in the world is to be on stage with my band and entertain my audiences. When the beat fires up, I'm in the zone, singing, dancing, and enjoying the interaction with people. It's like an explosion of passion, excitement, self-expression, and love. That's what I live for.
What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
I'm a solo artist, but I can't do it all myself. "Every King needs a court", which means a team, and it is sometimes quite challenging to keep everybody happy and on the same page. At the same time, I am fortunate to be surrounded by supportive, respectful, and loving people, from my parents and friends, to my band and professional team!
When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
As I child I was always very well mannered and nice. I wanted to break out. Be the king of my own universe. Create a world with no limitations. Where I can enjoy freedom, excitement, passion, beauty, joy, peace, and love. This is exactly what I have been creating with my artist persona Thomas King. I found my own kingdom, the KINGTOM. It is a kingdom in space and consists of seven celestial bodies, each founded on a specific principal, and all gravitating towards The Great Uniting Star - LOVE.
In what way has your community impacted your development as a musician?
I have been doing music and entertainment all my life, and I am fortunate that my parents have always supported me 100%. Growing up in Austria was beautiful, but in terms of Austrian mentality, it always felt too slow, reserved, and narrow-minded for me. Moreover, Austria has a huge classical music market, but in the field of contemporary music there is not a lot going on. This is why I came to the U.S. where I found an environment of excitement and outgoing people, which greatly supports what I am doing. And for me, here is also the environment where everything is possible.
What other artists out there do you love?
My two big role models are Michael Jackson and Prince. Their musicality and stage presence is just something else! I also have great respect for Lady Gaga. When people see me perform they often compare me to David Bowie and Billy Idol. David Bowie probably because I'm a very visual performer, and Billy Idol for my raw, high-energy stage presence.
What does your future hold?
My future is all about sharing the passion and love that I have for music and entertainment with big audiences all around the world. Just like I am singing in my song "The King Lives On". That's my mission, and I hope many people who read this interview, listen to my records, and come out to my shows will join me on this exciting ride.
